What do Toastmasters members value most about our great organization?
What makes people join and what makes longtime members stay?
Jeff Keup, the District 5 Public Relations Officer (PRO), decided to find out! During the Fall 2009 contest season, Jeff started interviewing members. Here are some of the responses he received:
- "I stay in Toastmasters because I love the interaction and love to hear people express themselves. I stay with the club because of the compassion and enthusiasm. It's a small community and we all help each other achieve our goals." - Rick Rinear, Hilltalkers #2372 (Toastmaster for 14 years)
- "I keep looking for new challenges and I keep finding them. The challenges won't let me go. I will leave when it is no longer fun and it is no longer a challenge." - John Stark, DTM, Presidential Citation Winner (38-year Toastmaster and 1986-87 District Governor)
- "Toastmasters is very energizing to me. I am happy to be affiliated with Toastmasters and to come to these contests. I am interested in achieving DTM status when I retire and have more free time. Right now I see myself continuing in Toastmasters for life. It has done wonders for my daughter who served as a Area Governor." - Carole Kuefer, CC, Yuma Sunsetters #936781 (2-year Toastmaster)
- "I go to Toastmasters meetings because I still learn. I have been a Toastmaster for 11 years -11 fast years." - Craig Valentine, 1999 World Champion of Public Speaking
